역설적 십계명   “그래도”

                            (The paradoxical Commandments)

1.       사람들은 논리적이지 않고 불합리하며 자기중심적이다.

그래도 그들을 사랑하라.

People are illogical, unreasonable, and self-centered.

Love them anyway.

2.      당신이 좋은 일을 하면 이기적인 속셈이 있다고 비난 받을 수도 있다.

그래도 친절하라.

                        If you do good, people will accuse you of selfish ulterior motives.

        Do good anyway.

3.      당신이 성공을 하면 거짓 친구들과 진짜 적들을 얻을 수도 있다.

그래도 성공하라.

If you are successful, you will win false friends and true enemies.

Succeed anyway.

4.      당신이 오늘 선을 행해도 내일이면 모두 잊힐 것이다.

그래도 선행을 베풀라.

               The good you do today will be forgotten tomorrow.

               Do good anyway.  

5.      정직하고 솔직하면 불이익을 당할지 모른다.

그래도 정직하고 솔직하라.

Honesty and frankness make you vulnerable.

Be honest and frank anyway. 

6.      큰 생각을 가진 위대한 인물이 작은 생각을 가진 소인배에 쓰러질 수 있다.

그래도 큰 뜻을 품어라.

The biggest men and women with the biggest ideas can  be shot down by smallest men and 

women with smallest minds.

Think big anyway.

7.      사람들은 약자를 동정하면서도 강자만을 따른 다.

그래도 소수의 약자를 위해 싸워라.

                 People favor underdogs but follow only top dogs.

               Fight for a few under dogs anyway.

8. 당신이 오래 공들여 쌓아 올린 것이 하룻밤 사이에 무너질 수도 있다.

그래도 쌓아 올려라.

What you spend years building may be destroyed overnight.

Build anyway.

9.      사람들이 도움을 원해 도와주었는데 오히려 비난 받을  수 있다.

그래도 그들을 도우라.

                 People really need help but may attack you if you do help them.

                 Help people anyway.

10. 당신이 가진 최선의 것을 세상에 주고도 크게 낙담하게 될지 모른다.

그래도 최선의 것을 세상에 주어라.

Give the world the best you have and you ‘ll get kicked in the teeth.

Give the world the best you have any way.
